Southern African Scholarships
The main application process for scholarships in South Africa opens in April and closes in August, for study the following year. We will be accepting applications for study in South Africa from April 2010, when the form will be available on the website.
To qualify, you must have completed either a university degree or a three year post-matric diploma at a recognised training college or a B.Tech at a former technikon.
We fund both full-time and part-time study.
Two copies of the application form for study in South Africa must be completed and returned by post, together with the required enclosures, in good time for August.
Applicants are advised to study the form carefully and to make sure that all relevant questions are completed and all required information is provided. We will not consider applications where this is not done. The answer to question 2 is particularly important. Please answer it carefully and thoughtfully if you want your application to be successful.
Our main scholarships are not full scholarships, and you should note that our grants may cover books, but not computers and other equipment.
We have asked for your home address, in case we cannot notify you of the result of this application before December. Please only give us your email address if it is a permanent one.
Students from southern African countries outside South Africa who wish to do a Masters should enquire from the university they are applying to as to whether they can do this with their current qualification, or whether they need to do honours first. If the latter, please apply for the honours only. A fresh application will have to be made for the Masters.
References We need references from two academic referees. This means two people who lectured to you or supervised you during your previous university or technikon course. If you are a teacher, and your qualification was obtained some years ago, we would also accept a reference from the principal and/or head of department of the school where you are teaching.
Ph.D Students Your application must be accompanied by a clear proposal. The topic and provisional title should be clearly stated at the head of the proposal, as well as on the application form. A covering letter should indicate whether you have already registered with a university (tell us which university, the department, and the name and contact details of your supervisor). If you have not yet registered and do not know who your supervisor might be, please attach a recommendation from your current tutor or university department head approving your progression to a Ph.D., and forward the name of your supervisor as soon as you have it. If you have any publications and/or have participated in any project, field work or joint research programme on the subject of your thesis, please include in your answer to question 7.
We regret we cannot acknowledge receipt of applications.
Please POST the completed form and enclosures to the Canon Collins Trust Regional Office: PO BOX 34692, GROOTE SCHUUR 7937, CAPE TOWN, SOUTH AFRICA.
