Dr Maano Ramutsindela

“I am now teaching and conducting research at the University of Cape Town. I love my work. There is still a lot to be done to improve the higher education in South Africa, but things are changing for the better. I’m still the only black person in my department, but my presence is beneficial to my black students who now feel they have someone to relate to. When I met the Director of Canon Collins Trust during my interview for the scholarship, we discussed how my degree would contribute to the transformation of education in South Africa. Today, as I watch black people’s confidence and skills increasing each academic year, I feel that’s what I’m achieving.”
