Hi, I’m Moeketsi Letseka.
I studied for my PhD in Education at the University of London 1995 - 1998 on a Canon Collins scholarship. I’ve been married to ‘Matsephe Martha for 30 years and we are blessed with two sons: Tsephe (30) and Ntutu (27). Tsephe is a professional artist. Ntutu is Senior Lab Technician at the University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg, where he is currently studying for his MSc Thesis in Genetics and Development.
I’m a Senior Lecturer in the College of Education, at the University of South Africa (UNISA), where I also serve as Chairperson of the Higher Degrees Committee. I am also the Deputy Editor of Africa Education Review. Before joining UNISA in 2008 I spent six years at the Human Sciences Research Council (HSRC) where I served as Senior Research Specialist in Education.
Why am I running for the Canon Collins trust? I regard myself as one of the privileged people to have benefited from the Trust during my years as a postgraduate research student. I’m also blessed to be not only a talented, but also an experienced marathon runner, and I would like to use this to plough back into the Trust as a modest token of my appreciation for the support I received in those years when I most needed financial support to keep me on my feet.

“I was successful in getting a Chevening Scholarship, jointly funded by Canon Collins Trust and the Foreign and Commonwealth Office. Southern Africa is facing epidemic after epidemic and you need specialists to deal with these issues. Canon Collins Trust will certainly go down in my history as an institution that helped me realise my dreams.”
