Funding sources
The Trust's income in the first years of its existence was
derived, in the main, from charities, foundations and individual
donors in the United Kingdom. From 1986 to 1994, while this
income was maintained, it was added to by grants from the
Overseas Development Administration (now the Department for
International Development); the European Union (EU) which
became an annual donor and the Trust's major funder; and the
Danish agency, DANIDA, which funded the Trust's programme
in South Africa.
During this period the Trust also received major grants for
particular projects, notably from Save the Children/Comic
Relief for a two-year course (one year in the United Kingdom
and one year in South Africa) in Counselling undertaken by
fourteen South Africans.

Though funding from the EU continued until
1996 through the EFFECT programme it diminished substantially.
The EU now deals directly with the South African government
and this is also the practice on the part of DANIDA and indeed
all governments and agencies.
Canon Collins Trust continues to receive
grants from a range of donors including companies. It also
raises substantial sums via direct mail and has built up a
sizeable tax efficient, gift-aid income. However, funding
has been affected by the switch to bilateral aid. New sources
of income are being sought, and partnership projects with
the public and private sectors in South Africa explored.
